What moves the tides of people to think with one virtual mind, to create new destinies and surprise even themselves, collectively, with their own “oneness”?
Of course, it is the Astrological tides that can lead to mass movements of such enormity. And we were influenced by very interesting formations of frequencies in the heavens this Saturday the 21st, as we Australians all felt the need to break out of habitual thinking regarding our electional standards and habits. We had to think this one through. It was a toughie, but in the end we followed the tides.

Several combinations of planetary connections swayed our collective conscience. Firstly, we felt ourselves being the tofu in the sandwich with the Sun, always a fleeting influence for just a day, on one side of us, stimulating our Heart; and Chiron, the great planetoid that awakens the compassionate mind, on the other. This opposition brought an awareness of conscience to do the right thing, to stand against the injustice of a job undone. Our highly popular Labor Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, was ousted in the dead of night, so to speak, by what has been termed “the faceless men”, at the time when Uranus first filtered through the frequency of Aries in the Earth’s magnetic field over a month ago.

Uranus when not handled well, can lead to aversion and arrogant tactics. Aries stimulates independence and can become a trigger for egocentric action when not used wisely. This combination led to the sudden aggressive act that has been referred to as the “political assassination” of one of our most popular leaders.

This sort of action reaps its own results in kind. We are not an aggressive nation. We have a Libran Ascendant, for heaven’s sake! Political knives-in-backs are not the way we do things here. The Australian people are not soul-less fools. We had to speak our mind on this. And some spoke with empty votes, their Silence statement enough. From the actual voters, there was a huge karmic backlash that lost the Labor Party many of its seats, allowing the Liberal-Coalition to pick up many more. And the most compassionate Party, the Greens, the only one to truly acknowledge and respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan People, as well as care an ethical hoot about our delicate eco-system, gained considerable ground in this process.

Heart and Bodhicitta, Awakened Mind, were activated in the Australian people (well, in a great many of them, anyway!)

Also, just to add some icing to the cake, Venus, the frequency of Balance, of Fairness, of Receptivity, had cuddled up to Mars for the election day, bringing an abhorence to the rashness and aggression of Marsy-tactics; and a sense of fairness and balance to the voter’s mind. And balance we did! Australia now has a “hung parliament”, with the actual Prime Minister and governing Party still in doubt, perhaps for days. The parliament is almost exactly balanced between the two major parties!

Did I mention Uranus in Aries? Did we say something about independence? Yes, the Independent polticians, who belong to no party in particular, have found themselves finally in a position of wondrous power! Along with the Greens, they are about to be courted and cajoled and lovingly caressed by the two would-be ruling parties vying for those extra seats of influence. No knives in the dead of night here.

This also brings us to Saturn, the planetary frequency that reminds us of our Responsibilities, our Ethical Duty to do the Right Thing, and to correct the wrongs. Saturn warns us of the karmic implications in all that we do. Every Effect had a Cause. And Saturn is right now in a squared formation to Pluto, the little moon/planet-body that maintains tremendous power, especially the power of others that it absorbs into itself: this frequency resonates with our Attachments, our Grasping for dear survival. It is a major player in the realm of politics.

So, Saturn, also “coincidentally” in the sign of Libra (the realm of Venus!), moved in on Pluto to check-mate his arrogant antics. Saturn, the bringer of karmic understanding, taught the Pluto-types a valuable lesson. Cutting others down only diminishes us all. We will not tolerate this sort of behaviour.

We Australians are compassionate people who love to rescue the underdogs of the world. We have many planets in Sagittarius to back this up. We have a Libran Ascendant: we give people a fair go. And THANK HEAVENS (and Kevin Rudd) that we had the chance to say SORRY to our enormously patient indigenous people. We are a Capricorn country with our Sun sitting next to Saturn, so we inherently understand Karma and Responsibility — we’ve learned this the hard way; plus with our Moon in Taurus, we love the earthiness of our country, our wilderness, and our climates, and our wildlife, and we want them protected.

… No. The coup was not the Ozzie way. So with the transits pouring Conscience and Fairness and Balance into our day, we moved out of our habitual behaviour-patterns of filling in the voting forms the same way we had always done; and we turned the tables on the politicians, and voted with our compassion and our Sag-sense of Justice.

Australia is a fair country, but where to now? We’ll have to wait for the next transits, to see who takes control!
